Harlan Ullman

Dr. Harlan K. Ullman has advised American Secretaries of State and Defense; NATO strategic commanders (including extended service on the Senior Advisory Board of US Commander, European Command); NATO secretaries general; members of Congress; heads of foreign governments and state in Europe and the Indo-Pacific; and heads of agencies responsible for foreign affairs, defense and intelligence.

In the corporate world, his approach to critical strategic thinking and analysis has had significant impact. Over his career he has consulted for the largest public and private sector companies. He has served on a number of boards and currently is Chairman of The Killowen Group, his advisory company; a senior advisor to other private firms; and Director Emeritus of The Wall Street Fund.

A distinguished graduate of the Naval Academy, Ullman led over 150 combat patrols and missions in Vietnam in Swift boats and later commanded a destroyer in the Persian Gulf. For three years he oversaw the course on military strategy at the National War College in Washington, D.C. He was awarded a PhD from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy in international politics and finance.

A senior advisor at the Atlantic Council since 2006, he writes weekly columns for The Hill and UPI where he is the Arnaud de Borchgrave Distinguished Columnist and is a frequent commentator on US and international television and radio stations. He also serves as a commissioner on the Congressional Commission on the Future of the Navy.
